Structural design of entrance gate for Mihan Dairy Company

Mihan Dairy Company is one the famous dairy companies in Iran. Mr. Majid Oman (Future Technics Company) was in charge of architectural design and construction of factory renewal project. He asked me to design the 16m cantilever structure of the main gate.
The challenging part of this project was to reach to an architectural shape which can satisfy both architectural and structural requirements. Therefore many shapes, material selection and structural analysis and design performed. Finally a concrete structure with a proper shape and profile has been chosen and construction drawings prepared.
Visual functions and special shape of this gate together with dead loads and earthquake forces induced large deformations and extremely high moment and torsion stresses. The selection of the proper foundation to overcome the overall overturning moment was also challenging. To achieve to the most precise estimation of the earthquake forces and mode shapes, dynamic analysis of structure have been performed.
